Capture Method: Single Program Capture

Like other Mozilla products, Firefox is very good about isolating all user-specific data in a Profile directory. Profile directories are located under C:\Documents and Settings\[USER NAME]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles. By creating a Firefox Profiles data layer, using "[APPDATA]\Mozilla\Firefox" as the Data Capture criterium, all user-specific data is isolated from the effect of a reset.

Mozilla Firefox is one of the most rigorously tested applications by Altiris. Firefox is the first sample application provided on the Altiris Juice community site.

1.5 - It appears that starting with 1.5, Firefox keeps its cache under "C:\Documents and Settings\[USER NAME]\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox". So you will need to add "[LOCALAPPDATA]\Mozilla\Firefox" (and subdirectories) to your exclude or data layer for use with Firefox 1.5.

Firefox normally deletes unused cached files - this can be a problem with SVS, because it never deletes anything and the layer slowly grows. It's important to purge the cache by removing all deleted entries / deleting all cached files from time to time. Alternatively, you can let it write the cache to the base.

Caveats found: Using the sample Firefox 1.5 application, because the way SVS watches the app layer is very strict, when you download / open a file using the mime type in the browser the application that is launched will become part of the layer not allowing you to deactivate the app layer until the new app is closed. There might be concerns as to whether the file that is being downloaded in the BT client is also part of the app layer (not tested)

Example: clicking on a torrent file on a web page which in turn launches your bittorent client. Try to deactivate Firefox layer tells the PID # of you bittorent client.

Remedy ideas: Create a data layer to exclude file extension .torrent and maybe exclude torrent client directory / destination directory. (Not tested) Not sure if there would be a way to exclude several mime types or if there is a better method to exclude things like this.
