Google Desktop installs fairly cleanly. Two items should be mentioned.

1) From the time that it takes to install and shut down the layer, your computer will have been partially indexed. This information can be deleted from [Files] > Google Desktop (Read-only) > [LocalAppData] > Google > Google Desktop > <Unique Identifier>
2) When you have the Google Desktop toolbar enabled, and you deactivate the layer, the toolbar is not refreshed, and you must disable it to make it disappear.
