Cisco IPsec VPN Client

From Altiris Wiki

 - Application Name: Cisco Systems VPN Client
 - Application Vendor: CISCO
 - Application Version: 4.0.3(D)
 - What OS was the VSA capture performed on: XP US sp2
 - Import from VSA tested to work on different machine (Y/N): N
 - List of OS versions VSA was tested on: 2.1.2084
 - Capture hints:
  • single capture the setup.exe (it is installshield), asking for reboot: do not.
  • catch the "runonce" registry HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
    • notice the command line: C:\PROGRA~1\INSTAL~1\{5624C~1\Setup.exe -rebootC:\PROGRA~1\INSTAL~1\{5624C~1\reboot.ini -l0x9
    • Keep in safe & delete this Key
  • extract the "C:\PROGRA~1\INSTAL~1\{5624C~1\" folder from SVS package to real disk
  • update the SVS package
    • single capture program: C:\PROGRA~1\INSTAL~1\{5624C~1\Setup.exe
    • parameters: -rebootC:\PROGRA~1\INSTAL~1\{5624C~1\reboot.ini -l0x9

Cisco GUI is ok, and I can customize for adding VPN profiles, but VPN connection is not working (see below).

 - Suggested/Optional package edits: The captured package is not working
  • Error log: Sev=Warning/2 CVPND/0xE3400003 Function CreateFile failed with an error code of 0x00000002(DRVIFACE:718)
 - Things to watch for: Any suggest is welcome... :-(
 - Most VPN client IPSec and so on, are installing additional virtual Hardware Interface card.

Cisco is installing the Cisco Systems VPN Adapter, all the same after deactivating the SVS package.

  • I suggest never using SVS for any VPN client package.
