Software Virtualization Solution Suggestions

  • The Trinket application should be included with the installation of SVS. Have an option to enable or disable it. (Smiley)

- Trinket is not owned by Altiris. However, we will very likely include this functionality in the future because of its usefulness.

  • Add registry exclude tab to be able to exclude some registry sections. (kmekari)
  • New Tab in Advance Layer Editor, Inclusion List. Would control which directory SVS monitors for changes for the application. Would work a little bit like the extra tab in data layers to specify which folders and files to check out for. By default, the Inclusion List would have the variable [SYSTEMDRIVE]. (Smiley)
  • New option to cut the writable sub-layer in the read-only sub-layer in one step. No more manual drag and drop. (Smiley)
  • New option to "merge" the layer with the base. (Smiley)

- This would be useful, however it would need to be used with care. Merging an app could break an app in the layer or one in the base because SVS isn't doing its conflict magic anymore.

  • Trinket or the app that replaces Trinket should have Folder levels that can be activated or deactivated Ex. WebDevelopement> Photoshop,Dreamweaver SoftwareTest> Echo,Thunderbird Games> Pong,Q-bert(JKelley)
  • Permissions Tab on Edit Advanced Layer Properties... should be added(JKelley)
  • Check out http://juice.altiris.com/ . On there right there is an ideas link that you can submit ideas and have them thrown up on to juice.altiris.com . Idea's don't appear automatically after submit so I'm (Tperkins) assuming that it's moderated.

Software Virtualization Solution Bug Reports

  • (Known Problem) Registry enumeration is very slow when layers are activated. Speed is decreasing proportionally to the number of layers activated.
  • (Known Problem) Layers can sometimes be unabled to be deleted from SVS Admin.
  • Numerous users have been reporting slowdowns because of Data Layers.
  • Copying data (Paste/Copy) to data layer can only be done for folders that have no subfolders. SVS freezes if paste of folder with subfolders is attempted.
