Alcohol 120% uses a SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD) layer to storage devices - similar to other access layers used by other programs (eg. ASPI from Adaptec, or standard SPTI from Microsoft). Alcohol 120% will not work without SPTD.

By default SPTD is not removed from a system after the uninstallation of the dependent software to reduce the risk of disruptions with other applications that may use it. The presence of SPTD on a sustem may explain why importing this layer has been sucessful on some machines, yet has failed to run on others (where SPTD was never installed).
